Technology such as mobile devices and social media have become the latest to join the list of items including sugar, porn, or alcohol that can become addictions. The implications are broad and deep. How many of us have been one of these?

The consequences are simple as being absent to those around you to sedentary lifestyle to addiction to a level people need rehab.

Tech is also different from the other items in the title in that is has created countless positive change throughout the world. Articulate. But there is a fine balance. If not used wisely the consequences are significant.

Simple changes in your daily life can go a long way. My family and I have implemented these with great success:

  1. Don’t bring it with you to the dinner table. Mealtime is for eating and quality time.
  2. If you are doing something important put the device down.
  3. Do not look at your phone for the first hour after waking up.
  4. Tech fast. 12 hours on and 12 hours off. When fast begins put in on airplane mode.
